Hello there,
me too faced error 17 and error 15 many times.
But in my case its always b'coz of mismatching b/w the values in my grub.conf file and the entries which "fdisk -l" was showing

So i was asking you to post the entries of
#/etc/grub.conf and
#fdisk -l

but you are saying that
#cat /etc/grub.conf is not working............so i don't have solution for that.

And remember........reinstalling o/s is not the solution. How many times will you reinstall it ???
Linux is the other name of problems/challenges.

so try to sort out the problem instead of reinstalling the o/s

well i will try if it dousent work this time... as i have allready reinstalled and got a system taht dousent work atall
i have downloaded slkackware 10.2 and will try that, hopefully it will work.
or at least bot form a bootdisk

i havent tried to install slackware yet im kinda scared to try some distros after trying to install gentoo but i dont know what slackwares install is like.

from what i have heard a lot easier then gentoo,
i diddnt find it too hard (apart from this stupid grub error)
but i have never tried gentoo as i have heard taht you have to compile teh kernal form scrach along with everything elce.

on gentoo install yes you have to do "EVERYTHING" by command line i got about an hr hr 1/2 insto it and said wtf am i doing this for. thank you i might try slackware 10.2.
