slackware 9.1 ->Debian 5: only 486 mb of memory. Bad Idea?

Hey all,
My work's web server is old and only has 486 Mb of RAM in it. It at least has a SCSI drive, but RAM concerned me.

I am hoping to move from slackware 9.1 to debian 4 or 5, but the debian wiki stated:

Code:

How much RAM do I need?

    * Try it out. You will be surprised how much you can do even with 512 MB. But then, RAM is cheap and does not drain too much battery power. So if you can upgrade to 1 G or 2 G it is certainly worth it.

Well we don't even have 512mb. This a bad idea? I love my Debian 5 server at home, but it has 2 gig Ram in it.

So, before I make the computer smoke, I thought I would check with the pros.

Thanks.

If the machine it is able to do it with slackware it should be fine with debian too.
