Slackware 14.1 on HP p4 freezes on boot, PS/2 Keyboard lights blink....

Hey guys- I just installed the base Slackware 14.1 system on an HP p4 desktop. When booting, the keyboard lights blink and the system freezes. Why is this? I want to use SlackWare to learn the basics of the Linux Console, but I cannot do so if I cannot boot into the system!

Help please?

well since slackware comes with 5 or 6 GUI desk tops wonders why the use slack just for console commands.
You may want to try the none smp kernel. but the such little info from you about your hardware that is a guess.
and you may want to try First acpi=off . And also in bios setup (CMOS) if you have it set it to none plugin play.
none O/S this way bios actually runs the computer hardware.

2.3 How Can I Interact at Boot Time?

When you see the Lilo prompt, you can hit the <Tab> key to show the list of possible choices. If Lilo is not configured to be interactive, press and hold the <Alt> or <Shift> key before the ``LILO'' message appears.

If you choose to boot a Linux kernel, you can add command-line arguments after the name of the system you choose. The kernel accepts many command-line arguments. All the arguments are listed in the ``BootPrompt-HOWTO'' by Paul Gortmaker, and I won't replicate it here. A few command line arguments, however, are particularly important and worth describing here:

Sorry for the lack of info on the system. It is an HP Compaq DC7100 SFF (PC940A) Intel P4 2.8ghz. Proc stepping F34. 786C1 system bios Ver. 1.05.

The bios oddly does not have an option for pnp.

How do I try another kernel? How do I change acpi=off if I cannot boot the system?

I want to use slackware without the GUI so that I can learn the console. Also, this is on a P4, so it is low end hardware. Only 512mb ram on it. I also just tried a USB keyboard with the same result. The line it stops on is

1.08.1012 c1a78990 ? rest_init +0x70/0x70

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me knows what this means?

Thanks in advance for any help.
