Hi and welcome to LQ.

Does it happen in eg. XFCE as well? What video driver are you using? Are visual effects / compiz enabled?

You could use XFCE for a while to see if that happens there as well.

What's the output of:
Code:
lspci | grep -i vga
Are you using desktop effects in kde?

Can you make sure that the effects are disabled - I don't use KDE and am not at my box at the moment but it's somewhere in Settings > Appearance.
If you could disable them and run it for some time to see if that happens again.

Do you remember if that crashes when you run a particular program?

Can you also look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see if there are any hints?

Hello,

I can't seem to find any hint for a crashing X-server in your Xorg.0.log file.

Could you please post the output of
Code:
lspci -k | grep -iA5 vga
Markus

So after turning the effects off, does it still keep freezing?

Over the last few days I have experienced some freezing myself. In my case LibreOffice is the culprit. When you paste some long text from a website (including some pictures and links to flash animations) it's VERY likely to freeze everything.

Hello, i have the same problem with LXDE and slackware64-current.
It freezes and doesn't reboot with alt+ctl+del neither with alt+prtscn+REISUB.
The only common i have noticed every time it happens is that i have firefox running. I don't know if it has a relation with this ..
