Slackware 12.1 Installation Failing

I downloaded the 12.1 DVD and have been trying to install it on my Acer Aspire 5720 laptop. A few minutes into the installation, the computer powers down. It does not seem to matter which part of the installation is taking place. The laptop is plugged in, and hasn't had this problem with other distributions. I was rather hoping there might be some magical boot codes I could use. Any ideas are most welcome! I really want to try slackware.

When first starting the install, at the boot: prompt, try adding on the boot: line, the options "acpi=off" and/or "noapic" and/or "noioapic" and see if the problem goes away. Your boot line would resemble:

I can't recall the exact syntax of all the boot: options, but Google can help you there.

If you get further along by doing any of these, we shall try to determine what the exact problem is at a later stage, like after you get it installed.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it still won't install.

It wouldn't boot with acpi=off, giving some error message about hda (the cd drive). With noapic and/or noioapic the same thing happened as before - the laptop died while installing packages.

I'm going to be out of town for a couple of days now, so I guess this will have to wait.

Hi,

You should check the md5 for the DVD iso that was downloaded.
