slackware 11 install problems or not?
 

this is my first post so here it goes:

ok i got slack 11 installed but when i boot i don't have a network connection, and the ps2 mouse doesn't work in xwindows... from what my friend told me he said that slack 11 should auto detect everything... so i'm not sure if i installed inproperly or what.. please let me now what you think, or if you could just point me to a document that could help that would rock... i was getting pretty good a slack about 6 months back, but then i moved, so i've forgotten eveything.. sucks.. thanks for everything in advance

It sounds like you installed a 2.6 kernel without the 2.6 modules.

so how do i install the modules? i'm thinking of just reinstalling with the 2.4 kernel anyways.. would that possibly fix my problem? i also have a doul processor pentium.... if that helps

What kernel have you installed? Type "uname -r" to see the version.
Boot up, mount the install CD (it should be number two I guess, I assume you mount it at /mnt/cdrom) and install from /mnt/cdrom/extra/linux-2.6.17.13 (if you get 2.6.17.13 from uname command) or from /mnt/cdrom/testing/packages/linux-2.6.18. You will need the packages called *modules* and optionally *source* from one of these folders. Don't install the *headers* package if you don't know why you need it!!
After this change to /etc/rc.d folder. Make sure that rc.modules is linked to rc.modules-2.6.17.13 (or ...2.6.18..). That's it. Hope I forgot nothing :)

Edit: Just realized what you wrote about dual processor -- I know there's a kernel with smp enabled. Sorry I don't know about that. If you installed that you would have to take the packages from /mnt/cdrom/extra/linux-smp-2.6.17.13. But only if you installed that kernel. I don't know what happens if you mix packages :-/
