Slackware 10.2 Mouse and more general problems

I've been up for way too long trying to figure this out.

I just installed slackware 10.2, and I've been trying to get X to work properly.

I think I have gotten the the video card and other generally video-related options correctly, but the mouse keeps bugging me.

I have a MS IntelliMouse USB, and I've tried a number of different protocols, and it just doesn't seem to work. Whenever X starts the mouse won't move at all.

I've tried using /dev/usb/mouseX instead of /dev/mouse, and it didn't work. I tried using "ExplorerPS/2" as protocol, still won't work.

Getting kind of desperate, since I haven't even gotten to the real problems yet and I'm already stuck.. (I have a wifi card -_-)

All help greatly appreciated.

P.S.

If something like this thread exists somewhere else, please do link me. I did search and didn't find anything.

Have you tried the "auto" or "IMPS/2" protocols? IMPS/2 is what most mice use and IM stands for IntelliMouse.

Oh, never mind, I fixed it.

Turns out I was hurrying too much and chouse IntelliMousePS/2 in 'mouseconfig', while I should've chosen 'usb'.

After I did that, I just reconfigured X with Auto as the protocol and voila, it worked.

One more thing for the stock slack xserver, If it's a wheel mouse, put
Code:

    Option "Buttons" "5"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
under the mouse section to get the wheel to work.
