Question Slack like distributions

Hi, I used Linux for couple years ( Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora), but I want to try something more advanced. I thought to install Slack on my laptop, but I saw on some forums that there is other Slack like distros: Zenwalk, Vector .... I am developer ( Android, Scala,Haskell and C++) and I ask what is a right choice for me ( to have some IDE's for this languages)?

Why not install Slackware itself?

edit: sorry, the link I posted might be slightly out of date so some info might not be valid. To put it very simply, Zenwalk is a light version of Slackware, which doesn't change the fact that you can customise your slackware install to get a slim version as well.

You may find the Distrowatch site helpful in deciding.

zenwalk is quite different and uses a pkg manager named netpkg
although probably all packages may be compatible i doubt it

SalixOS is the closest thing to real Slackware
http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/Home

but if you have enough space you should install the real thing too or first
