Slack is Slacking...(im having some trouble)

Yea ok, the install went almost flawlessy...the install craped out when it came time to install Gnome files. Said they were corrupt. Beautiful. I don't remember what files didn't install, and I didn't write them down, so I went with Fluxbox as my primary window manager.

I was surprised to boot up and everything went smoothly, there are some failed items comming up, probably the items that didn't install.

Started X and then things went to Hades. The video card wasnt supported. So after a quick boot up into windows, and a about 5 minutes later, I was accessing the NVidia Drivers from my Windows Partition (I'll give Slack this, it identifies my winxp partition in the installer!) Drivers installed, after about five minutes of searching I found my "XFree86Config" and found it was already updated. Or I updated it when I ran the program...whatever. Point is, the Nvidia drivers were there.

StartX...well it started. The graphics looked horrible. It looked like Windows Safe Mode or worse. Best of all my USB mouse isn't working, even though I told the install it was a USB mouse.

umm how did I ruin this Operating System?

update:
Mouse works, takes about 5 seconds but it finally comes around.

Fluxbox looks terrible.

The Graphics are all messed up. I don't know how to explain it, when I move Mozilla around there are multi-colored lines left behind. Graphics are distorted, and the text is hard to read.

Why is it that Linux just doesn't like my GeForce FX5200??

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._ia32_1.0-4496

did u see nvidia logo when you started x? if not then go to the above link and download and install the driver again and configure it. This may also have to do with the screen resolution or your monitor. Which distro are u using? have you tried to launch startx using the generic drivers that come with the distro that u r using?... need more info

I see the logo.

Slackware

with the original drivers the moniter and the video card stopped talking to each other. All I got was a black screen. Screen res is the lowest I think 600x800 or worse...
