Angry Slack 9.0 on Thinpad 570 Help Needed

OK, today finally I succesfully installed Slack 9.0 on IBM 570 (p2 366, 64MB, 4gb hd /w 1.7 for linux). Had little problem since laptop isn't equipped with NIC and CDrom

Anyway I like it, especially that default kernel installed my wireless PCMCIA w/o even me trying to do anything.

However together with success , minor problems come as well.

First of all sound failed when gnome tried to bring it up, and didn't fully load.
(since i'm able to get on net, this may be easy fix).

Second of all I'd like to know how to switch between Xwindows and manage them.

Also in my boot sequence kernel is starting a lot unwanted by me proccessess. Where can i remove them.

Another question is (i'm gonna try in a sec and see if it's gonna work) about dual booting. I have 2.3 gb win98 and 1.7 slack 9.0. I have BootMagic 7 installed. During the setup i choosed the lilo to be installed in root partition. Do i need lilo at all if I'm using BootMagic? I'm gonna try to get it to work.

Also is it possible to make use of the scroll button on Thinkpad 570? It doesn't work. I'm gonna search the net for this, but any info is appreciated.
Thanks for listening, and your help.

I'm very impressed /w Slackware 9.0

..o yeah and the fresh install font ...grrr....easy fix?

thanks

if you're referring to X-window displays, by default 'startx' uses display :0 .. so pressing ctrl+alt+F1 will bring you back to the black and white CLI and pressing ctrl+alt+F7 will bring you back to your X session on dislplay :0. now to start a simultaneous X session you can do "startx -- :1" and that starts another X session on display :1 which gets mapped to ctrl+alt+F8. "startx -- :2" will start another X session on display :2 which, u guessed it, gets mapped to ctrl+alt+F9 ..etc..etc..

if you're talking about switching X window managers, try "xwmconfig" ...this lets u switch between window managers the easy way ...

u need to edit some files (depending on what u want to stop) in /etc/rc.d/ .. that's where the startup scripts are .. so during the boot sequence if you see "Starting process YY" and you do not want YY to start on boot, then do a recursive grep for YY in /etc/rc.d/ to see which file starts that proccess, and comment out the necessary lines in that file..

if u want to use boot magic then u don't need lilo, it's just redundant. if u want u can edit /etc/lilo.conf and change the order of which OS it defaults to, and u can change the timeout value or comment out the timeout line and prompt line completely so that when you select slackware via boot magic it boots directly to slack rather than getting a menu.
