slack 11 not seeing /dev/cdrom
so i have used slackware sense 9.0 (still posting in noob section because i havent learned much) i was using 10.2 for a long time on my zd7000 laptop, i upgraded to 11 using the huge26.s with the bcm43xx drivers in mind but i hit a big snag.
when i try to mount my cdrom "mount /dev/cdrom" or "mount /mnt/cdrom" i get "device doesn't exist" so i cant try the other kernel modules on the cds because i can mount the cds. i am also having a lot of other problems but i bet i can fix atleast a few of them myself if i get this one taken care of. any help is greatly appreciatied. if i left anything out feal free to yell at me tell i get it rite, sorry for being a perminoob. |
Have you tried to mount the cd with the 'full command'?
"mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom" Or you could check that you have correct device compiled in kernel or as modules. |
ok tryed that, got device dos not exist but with a bonus this time, has (a path prefix isn't a directory) added to the message
how might i check the kernel and/or modules for the cdrom? edit: dmesg | grep hdc shows my cdrom, before i was greping for "cdrom" and not getting anything. edit again: so i tryed "mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom" (without the / at the end of hdc and cdrom) and it worked beautifully! many thanks! now if all gos well you wont hear frome me for a while. |
