sip client for voice chat


hi,
i tried to find voice chat client for yahoo but could found any which
actually works i want to ask can i use sip client to do this.have some one
thought of this?

I dont know if it helps you or not, but skype works very well on linux with the native client

Skype may work on Linux (audio settings can sometimes be a problem), but the main problems with Skype are:

1) Proprietary protocol
2) Other standard SIP based VoIP providers have cheaper call rates than Skype in some countries.

Going SIP is better mainly because there is a wider choice of providers.

Not sure about the video side of things though.

ekiga softphone is a SIP and H323 progtam this is in most distro's repos
definatly in ubuntu's
