single volume from IBM ESS storage shows multiple times in fdisk -l output?

Hi all

I assigned a volume from IBM Ess storage to my linux workstation ( RHEL 5 is ruuning ) by using the WWNN no. After assiging, if i reboot the workstation it shows multiple times in my fdisk -l output. I cant format and mount the exact volume. Exactly it comes six times in fdisk output. I format one volume and mounted that. But when i reboot my workstation it is not mounted. ( I made a proper entry in fstab file). I struck up with this problem. I need ur help. I heard in solaris virtualpath is there. It will not assign those drivers to any other disks. Is there anything is there in linux?...From the same IBM ESS storage volumes are assigned on solaris workstations too. They are working fine.

It sounds like you are doing this in a business environment. If so then you should have technical help available from your system administrator.

You didn't mention what model of ESS server you are working with. Nevertheless this web page should help.

More information is available at the IBM web site. www.ibm.com

Sounds like you need some sort of port/LUN zoning in place. The Shark (ESS) is a pretty old box - I don't know what it supports when attached to a fabric; I've only seen it as ECKD formatted DASD.

As stress_junkie says, talk to your support people.

actually the model no is ESS 800. But one more thing, mostly we have used that storage for assiging the volumes on solaris workstations. It has virtual paths. This is the first time we have assigned one volume from this storage on a linux workstation...There is no sound linux person too...I am still facing the issues...anyway thank u guys for your kind suggestions...
