Simply Confused

I've been having a problem with settings changing randomly on me. I installed Red Hat 7.1 a week ago and I am in every sense of the word a newbie. In some of the programs I use (Mozilla especially), no matter how many times I set my preferences, download themes and plugins, or add bookmarks the settings are gone the next time I log in and sometimes even the next time I run the program during the same session! I'm sure there is something simple that I'm just not catching here but I can't imagine what it would be. This happens both as root and as a normal user (I only have one account other than root, so different accounts isn't the likely cause...I think). I don't know what to check next., but its getting really annoying being asked if I want to migrate profiles every time I open Mozilla!

Is there a file called .mozilla in your home direcory?

$ ls .mozilla

i do indeed have a .mozilla folder in my home directory.
and it appears there are a few profiles in there....maybe i just got a little confused with when i was root and when i wasn't and starting mozilla several times at once, which seems to prompt for another profile other than the one you already have open......

the other program where i was experiencing the loss of settings was AOL Instant Messenger....doesn't seem to keep my list of away messages....perhaps its the same sort of thing and I'm just a bit mixed up :p

For AIM you should use a program called GAIM. It is alot more functional then the linux version of AIM. GAIM comes with most distrobutions so its probably already loaded on your computer.
