simple mail setup for hostname

Hello,

I'm trying to send and receive mail directly from server. I have RHE. How can I create a mail adress for server.

Example:

My server's hostname is ed.myserver.com

I want to create an account called "myaccount" and send and receive email from myaccount@ed.myserver.com. How can I do that?

Thanks

Thanks secesh.

So I login as root.

then type "useradd myaccount"

then what happens?

How can I connect via pop3 to that account?

Just a quick note, I think bumping your own thread within 24 hours will draw the rath of the mods.

You might want to read up on sendmail. I do not think pop3 is setup by default.

Where are you going to be reading this mail? From the same computer as your mail server? Or another computer?

ok, that sounds like you're onto something else...

--and B-T-W, while i post here often, i can't spend days at a time here... i will probably get an e-mail from the forums telling me there has been a reply, and if i am not active at the time, i will try to get back to threads -- have some patience...

here was my point... i was a little 'flippant' (useradd won't set-up home directory, etc.), but if you add a user, and have e-mail set up for the machine, you should be golden to receive mail at that address for that machine. i assumed that because you were adminning the machine 'ed.myserver.com' that you had some idea about this sort of thing -- that is more than localhost.localdomain...

while i mean no harm, lets try and start over -- what exactly are you trying to do?
