simple gzip question

I made a set of icons, and I want to put them all together in one archive. I ran
Code:
gzip -r -S .tar.gz ./Kliparticons
and when I go into that directory, it has zipped every one of my icons individually. I would like them to all be in one compressed file. How do I do this?

if you are using GNU tar(which most distros do), try this:

tar czvf filename.tar.gz ./Kliparticons

hope this helps
