silly but bothers me problme


I just instaled mandriva 2006. And i dont know how to instal things in it. Idk how, can some1 tell me or show me some site to see it. The another thing is, i used to use aim when i had windows, but as of now not knowing how to instal aim. I found about that in mandriva is kopete. I made my account, but as I made my account that i used in aim, all my members didnt transfer and I dont know how. Can some1 help me with this problem

There are a few ways to install packages. You could use the package manager under system--> configuration--> packaging or Alt+F2 then type mcc or if you have downloaded a .rpm file you could double click it, this should launch your package manager or you could open a console and type rpm -ivh [package name].rpm. Try to use the package manager for now until you are familiar with what you are doing. There's Gaim (now called pidgin) available for install via your package manager. Kopete will do just as well.

It would also be useful for you to set up your sources for obtaining free software. You can do this by going to either of the links in my signature. Select the following from which ever site you use:

main
main_backports
contrib
contrib_backports
updates
plf-free
plf-nonfree

Pidgin will be available for easy installation once you have done the above.
