shutdown xserver via remote shell (ssh) ?

Hello,
How can I shutdown the xserver of a remote machine via shell ?
I have root privileges on it. The remote is a RedHat 9 distrib.

You could kill the pid of X....though this may just spawn another instance if you're running gdm or kdm.
