Shut down Puppy Linux 4.20 from command line or keyboard shortcut without freezing

I usually use Ubuntu and am able to shutdown from the command line.

In Puppy I am able to reboot from a keyboard shortcut, but using a CLI "shutdown now" or "halt" results in the desktop freezing, and then I am forced to power off the computer manually.

I realize there is a GUI that will allow me to do this, but would like to do it from xterm or rxvt or a keyboard shortcut.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jerry
