show hidden files on Redhat 9.0

I am running Redhat 9.0 with an apache webserver for practising web design locally.

When I telnet or ftp an .htaccess file to a directory I canot see it again.

Is this because it is hidden?

Is it possible to set the redhat box to show hidden files by default?

I access the machine via telnet or by using webmin. I have not installed a graphical interface on the redhat box.

Hopefully this is getting posted to a newbie site, cos thats what I am..

The dot makes it a hidden file. I wouldn't recommend trying to change that behavior.
If you want to see the hidden files in a directory you could use the command: ls -a

Or you could just type "ls .*" to explicitly view only hidden files.
