show hidden files in ooo 1.1.3

Its embarrasing, but I cannot find an option in openOfiice (1.1.3) to show hidden files. Anyone?

You could try changing your file manager under tools>options>external programs. Then ensure that the view hidden files option is activated in that file manager. I'm not sure if this will work or not, it's just an idea to try.

Tried to change file manager: "konqueror": no effect. "kfmclient openProfile filemanagement": no effect. Others I don't care for. I don't intend to install a file manager just for ooo.

My search goes on... Found a feature request for this on www.openOffice.org. Would you believe that the answer was a question what feature was requested? I don't even bother to become a member when that's the way to react to a feature request!
Anyway, I'm perplexed, dashed and flabberghasted that such an easy question comes up with no usable answer whatsoever, not only on linuxquestions.org, but on the whole internet according to google.

After changing the file manager, did you close oo and reopen it, or just try to browse?

If you manually type in the hidden file name is it recognized?

Yes, it is; but I don't know all my hidden files by heart.

A "dirty fix" would be to look at the files from a file manager capable of viewing them, and typing it in manually. The other fix would be to learn vi, emacs, or pico.

The wisdom of your advice astonishes me. You are obviously not a regular user of ooo when you are handling invisible files, because using a second file manager to find the names of hidden files is too much work around on a regular basis. And could you point me to a howto for instructions to use vi, emacs, joe, nano or pico with doc files, presentations files, and spreadsheets? ;) I'm using vi often but never found a way to do that.

You can find some tips here, although I don't think you will be able to edit presentations and spreadsheets. Why would those types of files be hidden? Usually the hidden files you be editing would be system files.
