Shortcut renaming in KDE!

Hi,
I have Linux Kubuntu 10.04lts installed on a desktop of mine. For some reason when I rename something on my desktop like a "shortcut"...the icon disappears. I go to my main menu in the bottom right corner and when I come to an application I want on the desktop, I right click and hit "add to desktop". Once its on the desktop I try to rename it but the icon disappears and is replaced with a question mark, the shortcut is still there but I want the original icon so it doesn't look ugly. Any idea what the problem is?...am I doing it right?

Right click on the icon. You will get a pop-up menu. Click on Properties. In the screen that comes up, type in the name you want in the text box. Left click on the icon button on the left, and select the icon image you want to see.

The only options in my pop up menu are
"Icon Settings"
"Desktop Activity options"
"Remove this Icon"

It looks like KDE4 is still seriously broken

I liked KDE3, could not work with KDE4 and have now switched to gnome.
It's OK. Things work as expected.

Sorry I cannot offer you any practical help, but I'll be following this thread with interest.

So KDE 4 is just buggy and crappy? I mean I have no problem with gnome, but I just think KDE looks better simply. Oh well though no big deal, but I still would like to rename my icons/icon pictures. I can't find anything on the net.
