shimmering in framebugger 1024x768 console

i have a really weird problem here...i seem to have a 'shimmering' console display when in 1024x768 framebugger mode, its really making my eyes bad now lol. its odd because it doesnt always do it, usually after a reboot it will do it, but on normal startup usually wont (but sometimes will?!). ive tried reinstalling the kernel and modules etc from the slackware cd, but it happens literally immediatyl after LILO. have tried different resolutions in LILO and 800x600 works ok...so i checked and 1024x768 works fine in windows XP, so doesnt seem to be the card or display.

it looks like the display does when something probes it...any ideas? would be really aprreciated! thanks

note..i did ask this on the slack forums but unfortuanatly got little response

cant change the refresh in framebuffer unfortuanatly but i dot think its a refresh problem, i *could* be wrong but take this from another post (by me), about the same problem...

Quote:
this is weird! my console was fine for 2 days with lots of restarts, and no for no reason whatsoever (no hardware changes, module changes, software or anything (well unless u class messing with mutt as 'changes' :P)) i havent even logged in as root so im pretty sure nothings changed...yet its shimmering again!

ok well...i just logged in and am now typing this into links as we speak and my console is fine??? its perfectly normal and now im even more confused. reckon that could have anything to do with the fact i went into windows then back into slack?

if its any help the res and refresh are 1024x768@59hz, which is perfectly within tolerence (obviously as its fine now) and i cant see its the cards fault as it works fine in windows and most of the time in slack
i dunno...

Try a sharp slap on the top and side of the monitor if it happens again.
You may have a high-voltage powersupply problem rather than a software problem.

if your monitor can go higher on the refresh rate ... that should help; I had to set mine @ 1024x768@85 to alleviate the same problem ....

Also being Slackware, if your'e using LILO ... what's the vga=xxx line in /etc/lilo.conf? I had to switch from 791 to 793 also ( as far as i can remember ) ....

I'm still running 9.1 on one of my machines so I'll double check when I get home ......
