shell resourses needed

im looking for a nice list of bash commands.

ive read 100 docs that tell me all about bourne history, and how to use 'ls' and 'cd' .. '. i do have some limited knowledge of shell from bbs, but i was a young teenager then, and its been awhile.

when i learned DOS4.1 in about 1987(i was 9) 'help' listed most commands... but in linux i only know '--help' and this is great for the few commands i already know. so at this point i know how to write a "hello world" script....but thats about it...

while looking around my directories i found that 'man' is an executable file, when i was expecting a group of text files. when i try to execute, it seems to want me to elaborate with flags or filenames....

i need a big list.

search engines are turning up beginner docs....im more going for a manual

or how to find man pages and display them in shell oh ya....im usually using suse 9.1, for shell i use konsole, but i have xwindows too

http://www.faqs.org/docs/bashman/bashref_55.html#SEC55

it was what i wanted...i had to search more broadly.

ive received lots of help from all of you, and i hope this helps someone somewhere sometime
