share printer (windows-debian)

ok i have 2 computers, 1 debian, 1 windows xp.... i wanta share the printer so i could use the printer on the debian as the printer is directly connected to the windows xp computer.. the one with the printer has 2 network cards... one connects directly to the internet & the other connects to the network & the debia ncomputer is connected to the network, which has an internet connection. so how do i share my printer?

your in luck, there is actually a how to on this that i have often refered to for other distros, you can find it here

http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/...-Printing.html

hm... can i like get an instructions thingie... kuz that instructions is long i read half-way and dunt noe what its talking about... as i'm a newbie to stuff like this.. dunt understand what its talking about.

Peacedog 08-27-2004 06:37 AM

have you shared the printer from the windows side? the instructions may be long, but reading them and executing them one at a time should be less confusing. when using a how to this is the approach i take, don't try to read it all and digest it at once. print it out if you have too. read a few steps, try and understand them, then execute one at a time. the how to is pretty clear, but, post any steps you've completed, and any errors, and we'll try to help you.

lol... last time i followed instruction screwed up my debian & took me like few hours to re-install debian from scratch... kuz i got the netinstall thingie... so i didnt wanta screw up again..

what exactly did you "screw up" those instructions shouldn't foul up anything so major as to require a reinstall? in any event, what steps have you taken so far? i'll try and walk you through this one time. :D

well... i was just installing lots of programs.. i followed the steps in the read me file.. and at last my dkpg system waas screwed up, i cant install anything in debian packages...

Peacedog 08-29-2004 05:20 PM

so you now have a fresh install? if so, first do you have all of these installed?

http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/....html#packages

second what model printer is it? do you have it shared from the windows side properly? let's figure out these ?'s, then move on to configuring things from the linux side.
good luck.

yea i allowed the windows side to share my printer...

btw it cant find: cupsys-bsd, says package does not exist, so i went on and installed the others

Peacedog 08-30-2004 11:24 AM

not sure what versions of the other packages you installed, but, have a look at this

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/s...le&release=all

what model printer do you have?
good luck.

my models Epson Stylus CX3200

Peacedog 08-30-2004 04:39 PM

according to this

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...-Stylus_CX3200

you'll need the gimp-print driver. the link also states that if your model doesn't show up you can use the c62 model, as the y have the same engine. did you get evrything installed yet?
