z99:

Query: "how can i share internet from my pc running xp,and connect my notebook running fc11 to my pc in order to use the shared internet from my pc?"

Reply:
1. PeerToPeer: Have your PC running Xp configured as server; your notebook running fc11 must be physically (wired) connected to the xp server. Xp has an app named Internet Connection Sharing (ics.exe, I think), enable it, configure to host your fc11 to run over it. Internet must be running in xp when fc11 logs in to go internet.
2. Workgroup: If you have windows workgroup (network neighborhood) use that xp as the gateway (by this you may be able to escape from the obstacle of fc11 directly using a proprietary-secretive modem, a problem we linux users are currently facing.)

If you cannot manually handle configurations you may need contact a friend who knows it, or hire technician to configure them together.
---------

(You did not state you have a problem with modem/driver, but I only presume this because this is common linux problem.) Another way to solve a temporary problem with modem is to install an xp on the first partition of the laptop, dual boot them with grub loader under linux. Boot only to the xp when you want to go online.
---------

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

thank malekmustaq for replying,i did share my internet connection and connect my laptop to my pc through cross-over cable
i can ping linux from xp and also ping xp from linux,smb and nmb services have been started,i make xp as gateway
pc ==> ip:192.168.0.1,subnet mask:255.255.255.0,gateway:192.168.0.1
fc11 ==> ip:192.168.0.2,subnet mask:255.255.255.0,gateway:192.168.0.1
as you said Internet must be running in xp when fc11 logs in to go internet,i did that but still can't browse and page,
also when i go to network from places menu i see my windows workgroup/mshome but when i click on them i can't see the share
the error is:
Error:failed to retrieve share list from server

z99,

Congratulations! You did great.

What remains now is only to configure the Browser.

Please if it doesn't bother you, give time to share your solution to LinuxQuestions stories.

Good luck.

thank malekmustaq for helping,i did it successfully,that's what i did,
pc [xp] ==> ip:192.168.0.1,subnet mask:255.255.255.0,gateway:nothing,preferred dns=217.218.127.105,altered dns=4.2.2.4
notebook [fedora core [v.11]] ==>create a connection [should be automatic (DHCP) addresses only] because when i share my internet connection from xp, it says other computes ip must not be static,anyway that's what i do for the first time,
remember to set dns servers on fedora core to 217.218.127.105
then you can start using internet on your linux machine.
