Question several debian probs

Hi all,

as a linux newbie I have several problems with Debian.
After all I made it work with KDE and Gnome. But when
I start KDE I always get the error message "/dev/dsp not found (no such device)"
Using Google I found out that I am not the only one having this problem
and it doesn't seem to me that it depends on the soundcard or the distribution.
Has anybody an idea how to fix this?

Furthermore I can browse the Internet but only http. What do I have to do
when I want to use https, smtp, ftp, etc...?

thanks a lot
Toasti

If you log in as root do you get this problem?

I know atht I ahd this problem when I logged in as a normal user, but I changed the privelages and once I did that I no longer got that error message.

I would check that first and see if /dev/dsp is for root user only.
