Setup a Dynamic DNS
 

I have bought a domain name from directnic.com, but I don't have a static IP address. How could I direct my domain name to my server box? My server is running with Fedora 5. I saw there is an entry in the directnic website about the ns0.directnic.com (nameserver). What is it about? Do I need to key in my nameserver? If so, how do I create my nameserver?

I am very blur with all this, don't know where to get start. Please tell me some clues where I should find all these information, or any tutorial is best suit for my configuration?

ps. If you plan on doing ANY domain/website configuration that is accessible to the public internet DO NOT use something as OLD/UNSUPPORTED as Fedora Core 5. If you must use Fedora, use Fedora 9. Or the best solution is to use the latest version of CentOS 5.2. This is because Fedora Core 5 will have many know security issues.

Thanks for the info. But I am still unable to configure it after reading the documentation. I found other articles that says using the dyndns services for dynamic dns. Actually I don't want to use any other services.. I would like to build everything in my own server.. Is this possible?

If you purchased a domain name, it doesn't actually mean that you have a static IP. You have to purchase one too! Basically I am guessing you have purchased some space on their web server.

You can only set up a webserver on your machine if you have a static IP. If you gave a dynamic IP then what you can do is...install a service from www.no-ip.com. That pretty much works 90% of the time.
