Setting Volume label on mounted vfat drive

Ubuntu 5.1

I would like to change the volume label on a mounted vfat drive. Is there a command or utility for this? I could boot to windows and do it, but frankly I don't want to. :)

Do you have the mtools software installed? If so, mlabel will make an ms-dos volume label.

mlabel

I appreciate that. That's indeed a useful tool. I should have been more specific. The mounted drive is actually a Lacie 250GB firewire harddrive. I was under the impression that 'mlabel' is a tool for floppies. Is there a way to make it do HDs?

Thanks again :)
