Setting Up Wireless PCMCIA Card

Consider me a total newb, so please make your answers very kind to someone who doesn't know squat about recompiling a kernel or editing a config file with VI, or even mounting the CD ROM.

In general my question is: How do I set up a wireless PCMCIA card to network on a laptop?

Specifically my question is a little more complicated. I have a Toshiba Tecra 500CDT (very old laptop) that I ham-fistedly installed Debian Woody on. I have a Netgear MA 401 wireless NIC. I *think* that PCMCIA support was properly installed. At least the link light on the card comes on when PCMCIA loads during the boot, anyway. At the Network Card part of the install, I couldn't see anything like the wireless card, or any wireless card, so I chose "dummy." FYI, this computer won't boot from CD (so I can't try knoppix on it) and I don't have a regular NIC for it, so I'll have to move files to it by CD or PCMCIA CompactFlash adapter (if that even works.) Everything will need to be done from console, since I also managed to mess up the graphics congifuration and don't know how to change it (which is a discussion for another time.)

Searching around on the web has offered very little for someone who knows little.

I'd post some links to stuff I have found, but I don't have enough "points" on this forum.

Thank you for all your help.
