Setting Up SSL with Apache in Slackware 12.1

Hi after searching the web and internet for the past 18 hrs I have decided to create this thread.

I need to setup SSL on a Slackware Server I just installed. This is my second Slackware 12.1 Serve and after three attempts at setting the server up I finally got it to work. I did a full installation of Slackware 12.1.

All services seem to be running OK. Apache has been installed and is running. I created web pages and have tested them out and everything seems to be running.

I now need to make my web server SSL Enabled.

1 - My problem. In generating of a RSA Key & CSR where in Slackware do I keep this two files?

2 - Now after generating my CSR and whilst waiting the Certificate Authority to send me back my Certificate, how do I create test certificate and where do I store this test certificate in Slackware 12.1 in order for it to be used?

3 - After putting this files in the correct place, how do I check this files to make sure they are created correctly?

4 - How do I configure Apache and my Slackware Web Server 12.1 to use this files and thus enable SSL?

5 - What files do I need to reconfigure and where are these files kept in Slackware 12.1?

I tried doing it my self and crashed my web server a great step by step instruction would be great.

Thanks very much
OJ

Haven't felt the urge myself, but there's a (admittedly
older) Slack & SSL howto right here.

I'll hazard a guess and say that if you replace the apache
in /etc/apache with /etc/httpd you may be away laughing.

Cheers,
Tink

Hi Tink,

Thanks very much for the reply, but I could not find any folders there that he specified. Please note the folders he mentioned below to which there aren't directories of in Slackware 12.1

?? /etc/apache/httpd.conf
?? /etc/apache/mod_ssl.conf
?? /etc/apache/ssl.crt/
?? /etc/apache/ssl.key/
?? /etc/apache/ssl.crt/server.crt
?? /etc/apache/ssl.key/server.key
?? /var/log/apache/

The directory or folder "Apache" doesn't exist in my Linux Slackware 12.1 Installation yet, Apache Server is running and I am able to access my website over normal http://www.mydomain.com

I tried following some instructions given to me even though they weren't exactly the paths in my Slackware Installation and ended up racking my web server, and spent the whole day rebuilding it yet because I didn't know where to check to trouble shoot the error and it seem a whole lot easier to just re-install.

:-(
any help and all help is good help...

The site proved helpful but I have a problem just like with other information I have got the directories that I am told to have and files that I need are not there.
