Setting up SSH for remote login

Having never used SSH before, I just want to verify if I have this right:

I would like to access my home Slack box through my Debian box at school. ssh and sshd are working on the home Slack box. I have setup my router to forward port 22 to the Slack box.

Now, to access the Slack box, all I have to do is "ssh user@ipaddr" where ipaddr is the external IP address of my home network?

In addition in your router you will need to forward port 22 to the IP address of the system your run the ssh server on. The router runs NAT, so the external IP address port 22 needs to be forwarded to the IP addr of the receiving system. Look in your router for port forwarding.

It's so easy! That's awesome

Set my home gateway to forward port 22 to my Slack box and voila

Also please see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...tempts-340366/ for measures you should take when running SSH accessible publicly (the more restrictions the better) and also please never ever allow root to log in over SSH.
