Setting up Sendmail
Hi
I am new to sendmail so please bare with me. I have followed various threads on this forum and acted on advice but still no luck. I have installed sendmail, pop3 and a dns server on the same test box called Jupiter@ABC.com. I can telnet to port 25 and 110 and all apears Ok. I have created an MX record in the DNS that points to my local server (all I did fpr this was to go into the GUI DNS and add an MX record for Jupiter). I have created 2 local accounts called Andy and Bill at the domain abc.com. When I run Mozilla I send mail to Andy@ABC.com all the mail is routed to the Root account. When I authenticate with the mail server as Andy@abc.com it tells me I have no new messages. The mail logs shows their is a local configuration error and all mail is deposited in the root users account. Many thanks in advance |
Did you set sendmail to accept all mail for the abc.com domain? You would put abc.com in /etc/mail/local-host-names.
|
local-host-names
many thanks for your respone - my local-host-names contains this
# local-host-names - include all aliases for your machine here. jupiter jupiter@abc.com Is this correct ?? |
Not quite -- you want
jupiter.abc.com abc.com You need to give it the domains for which to accept mail, as above. I'm not even sure this is you're problem, but I've run into funny errors when this isn't set right, so it's worth a shot. |
I will give it a go
I appreciate the help and I will will certainly give it a go when I get back tonight and let you know tomorrow.
Thanks Andy |
