Setting up Linux on a seperate HDD

Alright, I'm trying to set up Linux on one of the older, Pentium 2 computers here at school for a teacher. The HDDs that are in it are pretty old, thus pretty small. So he put another HDD in the computer, thinking he'd put Linux on it. I can't seem to get the second HDD working correctly, I'm pretty sure the HDD itself is fine though.

Well, you're so vague we'll have to ask you questions just to help you.

I'll start with what do you mean by:

"I can't seem to get the second HDD working correctly..."

What controller is it on?

How are it's jumpers set?

What is the model/manufacturer of the mobo?

What is the model/manufacturer of the hard drive?

What have you done to try and get the drive working?

Let's start there, shall we....
