setting ROX file/app association to launch a Wine.exe

I'm new to Linux. I downloaded Mandrake 10.0 Official last week. It runs soooooooo slow on my 'puter so I decided to go with Fluxbox and a Filemanager to speed things up. I like what I've seen of ROX, just installing it last night. Problem is I can't get it to launch a Wine.exe program "i just can't live without".
Konqueror launches it just file, but, it takes Konqueror wayyyyyy to long to load.

The link I want to launch is in my Home directory, and it points to
~/.wine/fake_windows/Program Files/Budget/Budget.exe

Any idea how to launch this using ROX?

If it's not possible, what would you suggest for a 'light weight' file manager that would?

Thanks!

Right-click it and click 'set run action', then put 'wine' in.

hi,

I'm not that familiar with Rox, but one way to do it might be to create a little shell script - eg,

#! /bin/sh

wine '~/.wine/fake_windows/Program Files/Budget/Budget.exe'

Once saved, remember to make it executable! Then just run the script.

Oh, and you might need to specify the complete path to your Wine binary (probably /usr/bin/wine).

When I fo that, a dialog box pops up that says:

"ERROR You can only set the run action for a regular file"

I guess if you want to run a prog just by clicking in rox bad enough you can check out this page. I haven't tried the mime editor so let me know how it goes.

It's not so much that I want to, it's just I'm stuck trying to figure out a way to run this specific program without resorting to using Konquorer.
In Konquorer, I click on an icon and it executes. So simple,,, but so slow. Is ROX not designed to do that. Maybe I'm asking for something that isn't suppose to be.

I tried adding the program to the Fluxbox menu, but, that won't launch it either!

I'm open to suggestions !!

There must be someone here who runs Wine, and can execute from the Fluxbox menu a program located in Wine's fake windows directory.
I sure can't ! (without Konquorer... :D )

Somewhere in the Rox options there is a 'determine filetype by extension' option. Enable that, and see if 'set run action' works. If not, see if you can still run the program with Wine if it's not executable (use 'chmod a-x' on it), then see if 'set run action' works.

I seem to remember being able to do this with Rox but have not used wine for so long I cannot remember how. Rox will normally set a run action (ie a program to open the file with) then open the file with a single click, or run an executable file with a single click, but will not set a run action for an executable. If you want only to run one or two apps then kevinatkins' script is probably the best way to go. Just drop it onto the Rox pinboard or panel then click to go.

If you want to be able to run any .exe file then just drop the wine executable onto pinboard or panel (which creates a link) then drop the .exe file you want to run onto the wine link and it should just run. Don't give up on Rox - it is an excellent small, fast, lightweight Filer.
