I need to set DNS so that it survives the logout. My ISP demands static connection (dont ask me why) and I configured it in Control Center. The thing is the configuration of the connection is under one button and DNS setting is under another. Now I logout, the inernet connection settings (IP, gateway etc) stays set but DNS does not. Do I need to configure the domain name beside the DNS to work properly (I have no idea what the domain name be).

Yet another thing that might be in connection. I no longer am able to quit from the Control center. Neither the red cross in the right top corner, nor the control+Q work. Is there an alt-ctrl-del alternative in KDE? All other applications I tried so far could be closed

In some thread I saw a way of editing the network script. So if I write in the eth0 file the line DOMAIN=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx might that work? Well, I try

I found out that Control Center wrote into etc/resolv.conf a neat line
nameserver 213.xxx.192.1
(those xxx i put there as to puzzle unexperienced hackers;-)
But as it is, it does nothing, the DNS is not set after reboot

Will give you the DNS setting, but that is an autogenerated file (in mandrake anyway). Try creating a new static connection and deleting your old one.

I found that when you set dns server under miscellaneous internet setting
the setting would be lost on next boot up.


solution is to go to menu/system/configuration/hardware/harddrake to then
highlight ethernet controller and to click on [run config tool] then to select ethernet you should be right from there.
