Post SETI on LINUX, please help

SETI on LINUX, please help

I'm new to Linux, but I'm having a weird problem running SETI.
I'm using v3.08: i686-pc-linux-gnu

It's running on a AMD 2400+ CPU with plenty of RAM and a nForce chipset with integrated GeForce 4 MX video.

My Linux version is Mandrake 9.2 with KDE.

The problem is that within 20 seconds or so of running SETI, the screen starts to have problems. It looks like the video display is shorting out! A seizure inducing array of screen images flash around everywhere. Whatever is on my screen replicates and flashes all over. Only as an imaage, not a duplicate window. It's very strange.

I've lowered SETI's priority to -19 but the problem persists. Any ideas?

Could it be a conflict between your normal screensaver and seti trying to work at the same time. Seti kicks in when your normal screensaver would. Try turning off the normal one, and let the seti one take over.

Probably...from http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/faq.html#q2.4

'I have SETI@home set to run as my screen saver, but it keeps getting interrupted right after it starts running. What's going on?

The SETI@home client may be being interrupted by another screen saver or screen saver-like program. As SETI@home is designed to be as noninvasive as possible by only using your computer while it is idle, if the client detects another program that wants to run, SETI@home will quit and step out of the way.'

or in this case, not detect the normal screensaver starting and they 'compete'

im not a moderator or anything, but i saw your other post, the exact same as this. that is called double-posting, and it isnt very well tolerated here. i did it a few times when i was new here, but i soon stopped after the first one (thanks acidkewpie for showing me the light). if you get caught doing it multiple times, they might suspend your IP address. just a word of warning fomr a fellow user. i hope you get your SETI problem fixed.

SETI is command line only in Linux. There is no screensaver. Thanks anyway.

yeah, i accidentally did that too. twice in fact. i usually ask questions while at school, and we use macs. i love macs, but these tings are messed up. sometimes the network will freeze, and you have to resubmit whatever it is, and you usually end up with double posts. they wont get mad at you for that.
