Server won't boot without pressing F1

I have a file server running Ubuntu 9.04, with 2 1Tb Drives. I did a normal shutdown, and when I attempted to start the server again, it returns an error of A

rive error

Then I must press F1 to resume. If I disconnect the 2nd Hard disk it will boot normally after pressing F1. If I leave the Disk connected it just hangs up after pressing F1.

I can run it with 1 disk, but I cannot run it headless if I have to press F1 to start it every time.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I would first perform a 'fsck' on the filesystems on the hdds. You can use a LiveCD or install CD to boot in single user mode then perform the filesystem maintenance. If the filesystems checkout then this may require other diagnostics to be performed on the system and subsystems.

I keep 'UBCD' and 'SytemRescueCD' on-hand to perform maintenance. These do have tools to allow you to partition or perform other system maintenance along with troubleshooting diagnostics. If you do experience problems with the hdd then first try the manufacture diagnostic set.

I reconnected the floppy drive, and it seemed to correct the problem.

If you do not want the floppy connected, you might be able to disable the floppy check in BIOS.

Hi,

I agree. Either disable the floppy via the BIOS or pass the parameter to the kernel.
