(server) I'm needing to change the permissions of a "group"

Hi, and thanks for read this post.

I'm new to Linux (I've used Ms-Dos) and I have a group set with about three people in it. I'd like to set it up so that say User "Dew" can only see write and delete and run programs in his file ""DEW"" . I don't want him to see the "home" file or anything.

I'd like to do the above as a set group and not individually user by user.

How did you set this up?
Why did you set this up?

It looks like you are trying to do something which already has a set method.

Usually, if you want to share your computer, you set up different user accounts for each user. This automatically gives users their own filespaces like you want.

If you want to have a shared directory for all users to access, then you can just create one which mounts to the users home directory when the user logs in.

The only way I can understand this is to imagine that by 'file' you mean 'directory' or 'folder'. Tell me if I have that wrong.

If these are multiple logins for one machine, you should follow the previous advice about using the normal mechanism for user logins - or do you maybe mean that this is a fileserver for multiple users logged in on different machine(s) and you want to know how to set up NFS/Samba permissions for the fileserver? If so, are the client box(es) all Linux machines or all Windows machines or a mixture?
