Exclamation Server crashed, need help

My linux (mandriva) server crashed and is stuck at the emergency prompt.

I've tried removing all drives as well as updating fstab and madadm.conf to ignore raids and mounts to no avail (this was the problem last time).

I know little of how linux and emergency prompt works and from what I can tell there is nothing updated in /var/log/ when reaching this so I have a hard time tracing the cause of the crash.

Any help on where I can look, commands to run, longs to check and so on is greatly appreciated.

Running in safe mode I could see an error message prompting me to run systemd which in turn showed that systemd-logger.service failed with code 218.

Browsing online and finding this page http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=628081 gave me the idea to try booting on another kernel.

(During a rescue attempt a few month back I added that kernel but went back to booting on my old when that was not the cause of the problem)
