How do you run an exe.... I cannot even install anything. It keeps saying nautilus has nothing to run prog with.
|
How to execute a program you mean? Usually programs come with a readme/install or doc files to tell you what needs to be done.
./filenamegoeshere is the general way to execute something |
there aren't any .exe files in linux. a file is marked executable by it's permission bits, and you can run it by just typing the name of the file at the command line, or clicking on it in a file manager.
there are a whole bunch of threads about installing packages and programs on this site. you can do a search to see if you can find any info on more specific problems or post again with more info or questions, and we'll do what we can to help. |
exact info
why won't it let me run .exe when I click on it... it says this...
Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying "/home/madrabit/iMeshV3.exe" |
Because there is no viewer in nautilus capable of displaying that file or running it.
Like the other thread you started said, a search will reveal info on installing things in linux. btw, short of a lot of work, you won't be able to run that program in linux. That is a winbloze program, you are using linux, and gnome at that for a destop environment. Try searching here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/search.php Type things like exe install And things like that. Cool |
Oh and try not to double post, it's against the rules here ;)
Cool [threads merged - MasterC is right - please try not to double post, it's much easier for anyone trying to help not to need to keep track of multiple threads - isa] |
iMesh is a Windows program, it won't normally work in Linux, but you can download WINE from winehq.com, it can get some Windows programs to run in Linux. I've never used it so I can't help ya with that part..
|
it wont work for the same reason you can't take
your office xp cdrom and install it on a mac, and you can't take mac software and run it on windows, but you can use win4lin bochs vmware or several versions of wine to set up a copy of windows or a windows like environment under linux to run windows programs there. |
