serial to USB in linux
 
hi all this answer may be somewhere alresdy but.--- tried doz or so linux on my desktop no problems really even got puppy 4 working with winmodem reckonized unreal..anyway now got laptop presario c774tu and of course only USB..my problem is only got dialup and brought serial-USB adapter which works with vista. anyway. as i understand USB ok for 2.6+.the point is ,are there any particular cables that work with linux or is it a matter of doing something with kernel,cheers.

Most work fine with the 2.6 kernel. Not sure about under 2.4 kernel.

what is the chipset on the USB-to-Serial Converter ?

gday farslayer, dont understand Q chipset?serial to USB cable came with mini cd --drivers for winbill' what dont understand is cable works ,since going with win and had to put drivers on from mini cd ,no drivers on cd for LINUX,but have seen other sites selling cables with win drivers and just saying LINUX ,which suggest works with LINUX ????

Plug the Device into your Linux box.

Type the command lsusb

Post the output here..
