I am trying to authenticate the outgoing messages, within local domain and not for relaying. If I use OE and check the "Outgoing server requires authentication", i am able to send mail but if i use Evolution, I am not able to send email with SMTP "Server requires authentication" checked. I tried using the Plain/Login mechanism but it always gives error message. With LOGIN it shows, "Error while performing operation: SMTP server mail.example.com does not support requested authentication type LOGIN." Same with Plain.

But in sendmail.mc, its written that OE uses LOGIN mechanism and it is working fine but not Evolution.

Pls hlp.

PS: Is there any website which explains sendmail.mc completely, line by line?
