Selecting New Kernel In Grub Causes Reboot
Running Red Hat 9 with 2.4.20-31.9, I recompiled kernel trying to get
sound working. Everything seemed to work OK after: cd /usr/src/linux-*;
make mrproper; make xconfig; make dep; make clean; make modules;
make modules_install; make install, with new entry showing up in grub
and new folder with correct name in /lib/modules, new vmlinuz, Sysem.map,
and config file in boot.
However when I try to boot the new kernel, the machine reboots and I
wind up back at grub screen. Original kernel and DOS still boot OK.
As a really rank newbie, would appreciate any hints what is screwed up.
