select usb linux version from grub at boot

Hi,

I have a compaq r3000 that will not permit me to boot from a usb pendrive. When I boot into grub with the pendrive in place the light on the pendrive flickers. I would like to add an entry to grub that will let me select a linux version from the pendrive. I will be installing dreamlinux on the pendrive. How can I get grub to recognize the usb pendrive? I have tried unetbootin without luck. Thanks.
