Securing Ubuntu 7.4

I was wondering what programs are used commonly for security in Linux? I just switched from Windows two days ago so I'm brand new to everything. What programs should I get for security?

Hi americanforest, Welcome to lq. This will be a good start.

https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/keeping-safe/C/index.html

There are some really good tips there. The most important things imho are firewall, and use a user account for everything that doesn't require root or su privileges. Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction.
Good luck. ;-)

This may be a stupid question. I just installed Firestarter and it doesn't show up in the APplications dropdown.

How can I make sure it's working now and turn it on in the future? Can I get it to show up in the Applications drop down somehow?

You should have some sort of menu update or editor/layout tool. Check your system menu.
Good luck. ;-)
