second hand laptop chromebook with linux 17.1 mint rebecca


i just bought a second hand laptop with linux in it. originally owner forgot the root password. i cant even get on wifi without the password first. how do i reset main admin root password or even reset linux to factory setting. need help please and thank you

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R.
  3. Click Restart to restart your Chromebook.
  4. In the box that opens, click Reset and sign in with your Google Account.
  5. Note: The account you sign in with after you reset your Chromebook will be the owner account.
  6. Follow the instructions in the box.


If that doesn't work you'll need to either download the Chrome recovery app and put it on a usb drive, or download another distro, put it on a bootable USB drive and re-install the OS.

2nd hand, err, fishy laptop has mint 17 instead of chromeos on it.

To reset to factory condition. Then follow zyglows recommendation.

now to wash this fish smell off my hands.
