Searching content of the file using File Browser Nautilus
Hello,
I'm using rhel6. Using File Browser Nautilus 2.28.4 I could easily locate any file I'm interested in by it name. I'd like to use this File Browser to locate the file name based on it content e.g. based on some word in the text file. It doesn't work for me that way ... My question: does Nautilus support the search of file based on it content or only based on the name of the file itself? Thanks. |
Hello,
Try reading this: http://live.gnome.org/HelpOnSearching however i would recommend using find as it is much more flexible; f |

Actually I was asking specifically about File Browser capability to search based on the content of the file. I agree that command line 'find' like utilities are more powerful and flexible but sometime it's more convenient to use GUI thanks |
Granted guis are more convinent. I read the find man page and info page and I understand what makes *nixes what they are.
However there is a gui utility called 'catfish' which will search for an expression in a file. You would need to install that. Apart from catfish I do not know any app that would suit your need. Hope this helps. |
I'm all set. Thank you all for reply. I found for me the convenient way to use app nautilus-search-tools .
