Seamonkey-2.0 handles java pretty well. It's currently available from the seamonkey site as a beta.

You are not running Java as a Web browser. It would be useful to know which browser you are running. I will guess that you are running Firefox.

For Firefox, a certain Java plugin with the name "libjavaplugin_oji.so", located in your Java installation, needs to be linked to a certain Firefox/mozilla directory, like this:

Code:
ln -nsf /(path to Java)/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
Exit and run Firefox again. Then, from within Firefox, type this in the address bar:

Code:
about:plugins
Read the list that will appear. Look for "Java plugin." Make sure the right plugin is activated (e.g. "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_07-b06" at present). Deactivate any plugin with the name "icedtea".

That's good, but JavaScript is not Java. They are unrelated, notwithstanding their similar-sounding names.

Please -- what won't work under Seamonkey? Java applets? I just tested Seamonkey on my Fedora 11 install, and I get Java applet support for both Seamonkey and Firefox by linking the described plugin as explained in my prior post. The reason is that both browsers rely on the Mozilla plugin directory for Java support.

The above plugin list is obviously from Firefox, but you don't say whether Firefox now runs Java applets correctly. Also remember that you have to exit and re-enter any programs affected by the plugin change.

That's almost certainly the wrong plugin. There are several plugins under the /(path to Java)/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/ directory. I think this may be the wrong one.

In my installation, after some tests, I chose libjavaplugin_oji.so. Try it.

There is a seamonkey newsgroup you can try. mozilla.support.seamonkey on the news.mozilla.org news server.

BTW, I had trouble getting the linux openjava plugin to work on seamonkey. It works fine with firefox. I ended up submitting a bug to the seamonkey bugzilla, but it appeared that I was one of the few folks trying to stick with the openjava. I see you are using the Sun JRE and plugin and I hear that should work. I hope seamonkey 2.0 will work with the openjava plugin.
