SD Card Write protect problem!

Hi,

I plugged in a SDCard(SanDisk 4GB) with the write protect On in my Ubuntu system. Ideally this shouldn't have allowed me to write to this card. But it did. And that's when I found that it was getting mounted as a rw filesystem instead of ro. But the same card when I inserted it in another Ubuntu system with write protect On,this problem was not there. So nothing wrong with the Card. Guys...Some help needed on this please!

You didn't say if you are using an external reader. Sounds like the reader in the first case is not detecting the "write protect". Write protect in SD cards is not an electronic feature, it's mechanical. A switch in the reader can tell if the little slide on the card is up or down.

I was using an external USB card reader to plug in the microSD card.
But I checked if something was wrong with the card or not by plugging it in another laptop, where the SD card slot was available. Guess the external reader is creating the problem. Might be because of the USB interface..??!!
